If you need information, I recommend reviewing my Core Platform and my About Daniel page. More answers may be added here. This page was last updated September 7, 2026.
- Question: Why did you decide to run for Mayor?
- Answer: As noted on my About page, my intentions to run for Council come from my commitment to improving our public institutions, freedom of expression, striving to protect the place I love, and to give back to the communities I grew up in. In the larger picture of municipal governance, there is presently a struggle between “authority and control” versus “openness and transparency,” where I support the latter. I am a leader, who seeks to improve governance, support democratic values in our municipality, and embrace open and transparent governance, to serve the public.
- I take on the challenges of today, with moderation, respect for process, and an ability to listen.
- Having grown up in our RM, I get what our RM is about and understand why policies, such as those that protect our rural character and agricultural lands, are important!
- I have dedicated years to supporting the public, taking on challenges, often on behalf of the public, and informing the public of novel issues and defending freedom of expression principles, including in our local government. I didn’t ‘want’ to run. I needed to run to support this public good.

- Question: What makes you qualified to run for Mayor of the RM?
- Answer: On what qualifies me as a candidate, I have resided in the RM for 30+ years and grew up in our municipality. Beyond this, see my About page. I am a highly qualified professional, have experience working in public institutions (universities), familiar with local municipal governance, and conduct my work in the better interest of the public. I have been documenting RM Council Meetings for years, including attending meetings in-person with great dedication, and speaking at meetings on a wide variety of topics of municipal governance to support better governance.
- Question: At this time, do you support the RM of Springfield joining the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR)?
- Answer: No. Should this item be considered again, I believe it must be considered openly and must involve the RM consulting its residents first. This is consistent with the view I have presented in the past (e.g. my delegation on January 13, 2026, and written public communication from January 20, 2026 [the meeting the RM voted to request to leave the WMR]). I did not support Plan 20-50, and believe there’s other ways to support regional planning. This is discussed in my platform.
- Question: Do you support Sio Silica?
- Answer: No. Also, I believe any concern of safety or risk to drinking water must be taken seriously. See my platform for more information. I have attempted to attend an event for BON and was not allowed to attend, and also their Open House, where neither have given me confidence there are no risks.
- Question: Are you a member of any groups in the RM?
- Answer: I am a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, in Cooks Creek. As a public academic, I help people stay informed in our community about RM Meetings, including residents who ask for my help and engage with. I provide examples of my community service here. I also am actively involved in local government civics, where I independently help others and sometimes represent the views of residents.
- Question: Are you running on behalf of any organization?
- Answer: No. I am running as an independent candidate, to serve the whole RM.
